Can you climb stairs with a cart?

Shopping carts are essential for everyday shopping and outings.
Some of you may have wondered, "When I go to places where there are no elevators or when I have to go through stairs at a station, can the cart go up the stairs as it is?"
The bottom line is that shopping carts are not designed to climb stairs.

◆ Casters are not suitable for stairs
The casters on typical shopping carts are designed to be used on flat surfaces and are not designed to overcome steps or stairs. Trying to force the cart up or down stairs with these casters poses the following risks:
Caster damage or frame distortion
The cart falls over and the contents spill out
Risk of losing your balance and falling

◆ Lightweight and easy to handle, making it easy to move around
Many of today's shopping carts are lightweight and compact, and are designed to be easy to use even for women and the elderly. In particular, in places with many stairs or steps, simply reducing the contents or folding the cart will make it much easier to lift and move around more smoothly.

◆ Safe ways to go through stairs
If you must use stairs, here are some ways to safely transport your cart:
Lower the frame all the way down to make it compact.
Hold the handle (grip) on the back and lift it by hand without using the casters to go up the stairs.
Don't push yourself too hard, just move slowly and carefully, one step at a time
If possible, we recommend asking for help or choosing a route with an elevator or ramp.

◆ The basic rule is to choose a barrier-free route.
While shopping carts are convenient, they are also vulnerable to stairs and uneven surfaces.
The key to safe and comfortable use is to choose a barrier-free route whenever possible and use the chair in an environment where the casters can move smoothly.

◆ Summary
Shopping carts aren't designed for stairs
When going up stairs, lift the unit by hand instead of using the casters.
For safety, use routes with elevators and ramps.
With a little consideration, you can make your daily commute more comfortable. Please use the cart with safety as your first priority.
